A letter from CEO & founder, Dr. Marcel Muenster
Dear fellow Traveler,
A travel experience that changed my life
TraveDoc was born out of my own personal passion for not only living life on the road, but living that life well and in good health. Picture this, Hong Kong 2009, a 10-day trip quickly went from the dream vacation of a lifetime to a living nightmare. After just three days in the famed Fragrant Harbor, I strolled around the city's many streets and helped myself to a piece of fruit.
Fast-forward to later that evening, and all the classic symptoms of food poisoning had set in: nausea, headache, and a host of other afflictions that I'm too polite to mention. I spent the rest of my "vacation" in bed recovering, and had no access to quality medical care.
Research shows that I was not alone
As a medical student, I was shocked at the lack of reliable information available to me. I was already aware of the oft-reported United Nations statistics: 64% of travelers experience health problems while abroad, with 16% of those who get ill seeking care in a foreign country. Sure, I was far away from home, but that certainly couldn't mean that there weren't any experienced, trustworthy doctors to be found.
The idea that would change it all
And then it struck me, the information was most certainly out there, I just didn't have access to it. Maybe it was the language barrier. Maybe it was about finding the right specialist. Whatever the reason, I knew that if after being educated at the world's premier medical institutions, I was at a loss then the average traveler would be equally confounded in a similar situation. And so, after teaming up with an A-plus list of qualified healthcare professionals, TraveDoc was born. Our mission? To connect international travelers with qualified physicians all over the world. Let's heal the world, one doctor-patient connection at a time — wherever that may be.
